A new book by Marco Guenzi, "Prezzi Pazzi Arte a Pezzi" (Crazy Prices, Art in Pieces), will be on sale starting from the 17th March 2026. The book is published by Skira and deals with the value of contemporary artworks.

Why do certain contemporary artworks command prices in the millions of euros, while others garner no recognition? Why are successful artists rewarded not for their talent, but rather for their entrepreneurial skills? Why is the value of artworks increasingly tied to economic interests rather than artistic quality? Why does contemporary art often lack authenticity and significance? Finally, what defines a work of art, and why do we appreciate it? These are just a few of the questions—among countless others—answered in this volume. Yet the book offers more than that: by distinguishing between intrinsic value (inherent to the work itself) and extrinsic value (derived from the market), the author outlines a comprehensive theory of art’s value—one where the many disciplines concerned with the visual arts find an ideal meeting point within a historical-economic framework.
