Once again this year, the winners of the prestigious International Photography Awards™ (IPA 2025)—also known as the “Oscars of photography”—have been announced.

The awards are an annual global competition for professional photographers, amateurs, and students, representing the most ambitious and comprehensive showcase of the industry’s annual output, divided into 11 categories. The jury, composed of internationally renowned photographers and artists, evaluated over 14,000 works by professional and amateur artists from more than 100 countries.

The Fine Art Photographer of the Year award was presented to Julia Fullerton-Batten, a German artist represented by the Milan-based Marco Rossi Gallery, for a project of great aesthetic impact on the life of Frida Kahlo, featuring a color palette strongly reminiscent of the Mexican artist’s world.

Many Italian artists participated. This year, in the Fine Art category, Marco Guenzi, an emerging artist from Milan, received an Honorable Mention for his project “Paradoxically.”

Endowed with strong creativity combined with a well-rounded education (he holds a degree from Bocconi University), Guenzi has been producing digital collages for over ten years, depicting paradoxical situations that reflect the news and events defining our times. His simple and direct sense of irony—which even children can appreciate—encourages the public to reflect on the contradictions of contemporary society.

Bio:

An economist born in 1969 and raised in Milan, he has been working in the field of art economics for over a decade. Concept:

I have poured my heart and soul into this project, which has spanned more than 10 years, from 2015 to the present. The idea arose from my observation of the contradictions and drama of the world we live in. In a way, we are all passive victims of what is happening around us. Every day we are bombarded with news, images, advertisements, and strange events coming from the media and the internet. So I chose to represent this disorientation through art, in a paradoxical and grotesque reality.

Today, billions of new images are created every day. It makes no sense to produce new ones. So I assemble them, using the style of memes, commercials, and fake news.

Works:

Peace (2024)

Red Carpet (2025)

Miss Universe (2022)

Merry Christmas (2021)
